I can't help it; he's just so cute!
Brek worked really hard to be able to stand up and pull himself up to standing all on his own.
This is back in April mind you, so this is nowhere near his newest trick.
Actually, the week after we came home from California, Brek finally decided to crawl. He had been fighting it for months. Seriously. For a baby who used to like tummy time, once he discovered he had feet, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with the stomach. He would scream and wail and you would think we were torturing him.
Definitely his biggest accomplishment for his first year!
One day Joe and I decided to take Brek to the Bean Museum at BYU.
In early May I got to watch my cousin Brittany's baby girl D'Anna for an afternoon. She turned 1 in March, and is just so tiny. She melts my little heart. She is TERRIFIED of little boys; I find it quite hilarious. At one point she was sitting on my lap and Brek came crawling over. I could just feel her heart start racing. Another time she was heading up the stairs and Brek was crawling towards her from across the room. I couldn't convince her to hurry, so when Brek got to her and started balancing himself against her while he tried to stand up, she had a look of horror on her face. Wish I could have caught that one on camera.
Other news about Brek during April & May:
His 3rd tooth came in, but surprisingly to us, it wasn't a top one, but a bottom tooth next to the middle two. And we weren't even watching for it or prepared for it. We stopped by to see my sister-in-law Marisa; he was a little bit fussier than normal; I thought he was just hungry. I took him home. When I opened the car door to take him out of his car seat, he opened his mouth and I saw his new tooth.
Brek took his first steps on May 11th. It was very exciting. One of those picture perfect moments where he walks between mommy and daddy. Little did we know that when we tried to entice him with ice cream, he was well aware of our attempt at manipulation and quite loudly voiced his disdain. Since then he has become quite the pro. He seriously has been trying to walk since he was 4 months old, so we were not surprised he accomplished his goal this early. I actually love having him mobile, because now he really can get to where he wants to be.
Brek has learned to make kissing noises and "blubb blubber" his lips, or whatever you call it. You know, when you rub your finger across your lips, up and down. He loves that. And if you start doing it, then he'll grab your finger and "help you." Then you can say, "Brek's turn," and he'll do it himself, and then back to "helping you" again. I love all these fun things he is discovering.
One of the lesser fun things he has discovered is that the toilet paper rolls. Or unrolls, really. He just likes it because it spins. One of those joys of being a parent, right? :)
I guess that's a good enough wrap up for tonight. Definitely overdue.
